The Austin CPA Chapter took their turn at bat as part of the Fort Worth Chapter's annual softball tournament on Saturday, October 20. We were the only out-of-town competitors in a tournament of 16 teams.
Despite collegial jibes along the lines of “we can’t let the Weirdos win,” we successfully completed three games. In fact, the team that ultimately won the tournament had to beat Austin to get there: we scored three points in that game and held them to eight.
The Austin CPA Weirdos are Robert Burg, Jason Cromleigh, Erin Cromleigh, David Crumbaugh, Laura Dominguez, Jesse Dominguez (team captain), Diane Joiner, Steve Joiner, Casey Keeling, Ira Lipstet, Lucy Medrano, Jeremy Myers, Christi Mondrik, Dan Mondrik, Roger Reese and Tony Ross.
Special thanks go to our bat girl, Corina Dominguez, and our cheering section: Nancy Foss, Michele Heyman, Jan Keeling, Donna Wesling and lots of of other friends and families.
The Austin Weirdos had the best uniforms and the best cheering section ever ... and we made it through the tournament with no major injuries! The Fort Worth Chapter awarded us a special trophy for being the team to travel the farthest for the tournament, proving Woody Allen’s adage that 80% of success in life is showing up.
We thank the Fort Worth Chapter for their hospitality. Not only did they give us a warm welcome (and share their hot dogs, burgers and beer), they also invited us to come again next year and help recruit the San Antonio Chapter to join in the fun.
If we can recruit more players next year, perhaps we could advance further ... maybe 1st, 2nd or 3rd place? |
