CPA Day at the Capitol

Most Senators and Representatives were not available to speak with us but there was an opportunity to make contact with the legislators’ staff. It is essential to establish a rapport with the staff as we will need their assistance for ongoing contact in their office. We shared those topics that are most important to Texas CPAs – the Margin Tax and interstate mobility for our profession. TSCPA’s Legislative Advisory Committee provided printed cards with the TSCPA’s Legislative Agenda and recommended changes to the Margin Tax. That summary information was perfect for distribution to the legislative staff.

Legislators and their staff were invited to lunch with TSCPA members at the Capitol Marriott. TSCPA provided transportation to and from the Capitol for the luncheon. Many legislators and staff attended including Tom Craddick, House Speaker. There was at least one Senator, Representative or staff person seated at each table. The conversations were lively and informative and the luncheon was a huge success. It was an interesting and educational experience, one that we look forward to repeating in two years.
