Application of Forensic Interviewing Techniques to Audits by Erwin Sulak, CFE

The most successful inquiries, including audit, investigative, or M&A due diligence efforts are those where the maximum amount of usable, reliable, and verifiable information is volunteered by the subject of those inquiries. Key to encouraging the flow of reliable information is (a) the creation of a minimally stressful environment; (b) use of non-contaminating stimuli by the interviewer to elicit responses and (c) the ability of the interviewer to interpret the unique language of the subject. If we accept the premise that audits are conducted for the purpose of improving the operations and profitability of an organization, we need to examine audit methodologies and techniques that enhance the gathering of useful information. This course will provide the course participants with tools to enhance the audit process.
